The H-1B visa is limited to an annual cap of 65,000 visas every fiscal
year. However, there are exemptions available from the cap, especially
for beneficiaries with a U.S. master’s degree or higher (if it is
filed among the first 20,000 petitions available) or if the H-1B worker
is employed or petitioned on behalf of an institute of higher education,
nonprofit entities, and government research organizations.
H-1B visa holders may stay in the U.S. for up to three years. Your time
period may be extended, but it cannot go beyond six years total.
